The Curacao utility company Aqualectra, represented by Mayesi Hammoud of VANEPS, has vindicated in summary proceedings it started against the World Trade Center in Curacao. The summary proceedings were started by Aqualectra to ensure payment of the debt of millions of guilders WTC has with Aqualectra. The Court ruled in favor of Aqualectra on Tuesday 21 April.

Illegal consumption by WTC was determined, after which Aqualectra claimed ANG 5.5mln of WTC as compensation. The summary proceedings were started alongside the proceedings on the merits which are ongoing, to prevent WTC from stalling the payment and as such forcing Aqualectra to agree on a favorable settlement for WTC. Mayesi explains in Antilliaans Dagblad (Antilian Daily): “I think it’s good that there is at least clarity at this point, being that the judge is of the opinion that the claim can be granted. Meanwhile, the proceedings on the merits will continue as normal.”
