On Monday 15 January 2018, the Surinam Jurists Association (SJV), along with the Hakrinbank, organized a lecture and a panel discussion about the amended Commercial Code and the Act on Annual Accounts of Suriname. Partner Frank Kunneman held the introductory talk at this meeting and was one of the panel members.

In his lecture ‘Transparency, accountability and liability in Surinam company law’, Frank Kunneman addressed the practical application of the two laws in Curaçao. In addition, he discussed various challenges at the national and international level that Surinam, Curaçao and other countries in the Caribbean are facing. The small scale of these communities makes them extra sensitive to global developments in the field of financial supervision and IT. Due to the limited available means, collaboration and creative solutions are needed to properly deal with these matters.

The meeting was attended by more than three hundred people, which resulted in a lively panel discussion. During this discussion, members of the public expressed some concerns regarding the implementation of the laws.
