On Wednesday 7 June, the three-day business conference of Connecting the Dots in Curaçao was kicked off by the Minister of Economic Development, Steven Martina. The second day of the conference focused on tourism. Attorneys at law Kimberley de l’Isle and Tiffany de Palm of VANEPS provided a workshop on employment law.

Kimberly and Tiffany discussed several important do’s and don’ts regarding employment law. They explained for instance what needs to be taken into account when drafting defined and indefinite employment agreements. Furthermore, they addressed the rules regarding overtime, which are different for the hospitality sector. After the presentation, the participants – including young entrepreneurs and law students – had a lot of questions about for example the termination of employment agreements.

VANEPS collected the hospitality specific employment legislation on Curaçao in a booklet, which includes a practical checklist. The booklet can be sent upon request. Those interested in receiving a copy can contact Carolyn Isa (E isa@vaneps.com, T +5999 461 3400 ext. 120).
