In August 2017, GovRisk organized the three-day Dutch Caribbean Gaming Regulation Forum in collaboration with the Gaming Control Board Curaçao. This forum brought together the most important representatives from the gaming industry in Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, St. Maarten and Suriname, as well as many interested parties from other countries. The program included various lectures and the participants had the opportunity to exchange knowledge during panel sessions and case studies.

The first day focused on the theme of ‘Standards and Policy for a Modern Gaming Jurisdiction’ and featured a lecture by attorney at law Brechtje Huiskes. She presented an overview of the applicable local laws and regulations for the gaming industrie on the Dutch Caribbean islands, discussing various sectors within this industry including casinos and lotteries. As part of her presentation she also made a number of recommendations on how to improve regulations within these jurisdictions. Moreover, at the end of the day she participated as a panel member in a discussion about the challenges and opportunities offered by the gaming industry in small jurisdictions.
